WHAT IS AN LPG GAS CONVERSION?
There are plenty of people who have gotten a LPG gas conversion, but many are still wondering what the conversion is. They have heard about it in the news, from their friends and have heard the government gives a refund for the conversion, but don’t understand what it is.
WHAT IS AN LPG GAS CONVERSION?
An LPG gas conversion on a vehicle adds a liquefied propane tank to the boot of your car. It also includes gas lines to the engine that allow the driver to safely switch between petrol and propane gas. This gives the owner of the vehicle a lower fuel cost and, in certain cases, a boost in engine performance.
Even though you could use LPG gas as a sole fuel source, it isn’t recommended. If you have a problem with the gas system or are not close enough to an LPG station when you run low, you won’t have petrol as a backup option to get you to safety.
LPG for vehicles is called Autogas. It is a blend of gases and a purer grade than the propane you would use in your BBQ. Since Autogas is a blend of propane and butane, your vehicle will not run off of a cylinder of BBQ gas, which is propane only.
When your vehicle undergoes a LPG conversion, it will start to save you money from the start, since LPG is generally fifty percent cheaper than other road fuels. This means you can recover the cost of the conversion in a matter of months. Even if you didn’t receive the rebate.
THE REBATE FROM THE GOVERNMENT
LPG Vehicle Scheme, the name of the rebate program, provides a reimbursement to buy a new private-use vehicle that has been fitted with a
LPG system before it is first registered or for an LPG fuel conversion of a private-use vehicle that has already been registered.

If the brand-new automobile you buy already has an LPG system installed, you can claim a $2000 refund. This includes vehicles fitted with LPG at the time of manufacture, as well as vehicles fitted with LPG after manufacture but before its first registration.
If you convert your used vehicle to Autogas, you can claim $1000 back from the government if the conversion is completed between 1 July 2012 and 30 June 2014.

With these benefits, provided by the Government and the inherent fuel cost savings of the conversion, it is easy to understand why so many people get an LPG gas conversion.
